IGS Goes Green

Recently the management team of IGS Ground Services agreed on an environmental policy for the company. The policy, which is called “IGS Goes Green”, is aimed to minimizing the environmental effect that IGS operation in Keflavik International Airport generates. The implementation of the policy will be followed up according to this action plan:

  1. IGS’s goal is to use as environmental friendly fuel as possible at each time on all their Ground Handling Equipments.
  2. IGS’ goal is to use Ground Handling Equipments powered by electricity instead of fuel whenever possible.
  3. IGS’s goal is to minimize all driving on the ramp and free-running of their Ground Handling Equipments.
  4. IGS’ goal is to recycle garbage and waste disposals from IGS operation whenever it is possible.
  5. IGS’s goal is to follow all regulations regarding the environmental issues that effect IGS operation.

IGS has already discussed cooperation with Airport Authorities in Keflavik on certain issues regarding the implementation of the policy. According to Einar Hannesson, Director Ground Operation, it should be possible to reach these goals by emphasizing on environmental issues in the initial and recurrent training of employees. Additionally IGS will use all information it gathers, regarding environmental issues, for preventive measures within the company.
